WARRINGTON Wolves forward Jason Clark has paid tribute to long-time teammate Greg Inglis after he announced his retirement from rugby league.

The former Queensland and Australia captain revealed he was bringing his glittering career to an immediate end on Monday having played in 32 State of Origin games, won 36 caps for his country and lifted one NRL title.

His sole Premiership came with South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2014 – a squad Wire forward Clark was also a part of.

The pair were teammates from 2011 – when Inglis joined the Bunnies from Melbourne Storm – up until Clark left for Warrington last year.

When asked about his decision to retire, Clark had glowing words about his ex-teammate.

“He’s up there with the best players I’ve played with. Not many compare with Greggy that’s for sure,” he said.

“He’s done everything in the game and has won pretty much every award you can get in the NRL.

“He’s unbelievable – not just as a player but as a person. To call him a friend is something I’m proud of.

“I spoke to him the day he announced it. He called me, which was a big deal.

“I guess it’s some closure for him not to have that stress so he can work on the next part of life.”
