Woolston Rovers 32 Eastmoor Dragons 10

“THE positives are outweighing the negatives” for Woolston Rovers as they closed the gap on the National Conference League Division Three leaders.

Saturday’s win over Eastmoor Dragons was their fifth in seven games this season and sees them sit third – two points behind leaders Leigh East having played a game less.

Justin Becker crossed twice for Mal Holt’s side while Aaron Barber converted four of the six tries scored by the Green and Golds.

Niall Toher, Sam Roberts, Jimmy Evans and Nick Braide also crossed for Rovers, who had Matt Taylor and Ryan Brown sin-binned at different times but still completed a solid victory.

“That was another good win for us against a really tough and rugged Eastmoor side,” Holt said.

“We always seemed to have more in the tank than the opposition but it took us until midway through the second half to finally shake them off.

“Our defence was good again once again and our attack continues to improve week on week.

“We had a number of forced changes this week due to injuries and holiday, but all the lads that stepped up from the NWML side played very well and contributed massively to the win.

“We were well structured again and the positives are now outweighing the negatives on the field.

“We have moved up to third place, two points behind the leaders with a game in hand so we have put ourselves in a great position.”

Rovers’ next fixture sees them travel to Millom on Saturday, April 27.
