THE top junior rowers in the country will compete in Germany next month – and one Warrington Rowing Club youngster will be among them.

Ella Stanhope was one of six girls chosen for Great Britain’s junior women’s sculling squad for the Munich Junior Regatta, which takes place on the weekend of May 4-5.

The 17-year-old, who will be representing her country for the first time, took her chance to impress selectors at trials she was not even supposed to be a part of.

She was first reserve for the GB Spring Assessments trial in Nottingham, but rose up the rankings from her previous position of 13th after a late call-up and a gruelling four days of testing and racing.

“One thing WRC has learnt about Ella is that she is tenacious and gives it her best,” coach Richard Sinnott said.

“To get selected for GB has been an ambition for Ella for some time.

“All athletes and coaches at Warrington are delighted for her and hope she can continue this form into the summer.”

Stanhope has also put herself into contention for this year’s World Rowing Junior Championships, which will be held in Tokyo on the rowing lake that will be used for next year’s Olympic Games.
