Crosfields 24 Ince Rose Bridge 33

ON the day of the Grand National, Ian Boden says his Crosfields outfit “failed to turn up at the races.”

Their defeat to National Conference League Division Two leaders Ince Rose Bridge was their first at Hood Lane this year and third overall.

In a hard-fought affair, the clinical edge of the visitors proved enough to take the victory.

Jack Reid converted his own try to put Soap ahead before three tries in a devastating eight-minute spell put Rose Bridge in control.

A second Reid try narrowed the gap – as did one from John Whittaker following another purple patch from the visitors – but the Wigan outfit always kept them at arm’s length.

Jordan Williams’ late try at least made sure Soap had the last word, but Boden admitted they did not deserve anything from the game.

“Unfortunately on the day of the Grand National, we just failed to turn up at the races,” he said.

“We went into the lead but did not show composure to control the game.

“To their credit, Ince played some good rugby and deserved the win.”
