THE Wire’s under 19s shook off back-to-back defeats as they saw off a spirited London outfit to bounce back to winning ways.

Ellis Longstaff gave Paul Anderson’s side the perfect start at Victoria Park – going over in the first minute after the Broncos dropped the kick off.

Five minutes later, more slick handling saw Josh Thewlis send Nathan Roebuck through a gap and he found Joe Barnes in support to cross.

Thewlis then raced in from long range to extend The Wire’s lead to 14 points before a period of pressure led to London getting their first points – Adam Green scoring between the posts.

Two minutes into the second half, Oliver Leyland profited from a Wolves knock-on to narrow the gap further and set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Thewlis linked into the line to score his second and calm a few nerves only for Jonah Varela to score London’s third try soon afterwards, with Leyland’s touchline conversion levelling the scores at 18-18.

Almost immediately though, the hosts retook the lead when Barnes chipped over the defence, collected and kicked ahead again for Longstaff to touch down.

Varela grabbed his second try on the hour mark to set up a thrilling final quarter, but The Wire stepped on the gas pedal when they needed it most.

Immediately after Varela’s try, George Roby burrowed over from dummy-half before Liam Brinksman squeezed through to score in the right corner to round off the scoring.
