STEVE Price provided updates on injuries to Blake Austin, Jake Mamo, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Ryan Atkins and Gareth Widdop in the wake of Wire burying Hull FC 63-12.

Austin played most of the game with strapping around his head after a stray knee cut him.

“It wasn’t a serious head knock,” said Price.

“I’ve got the utmost trust in my medical staff. It wasn’t one of those where he had to come off but he plays the game tough and that’s what I love about him.”

Ben Murdoch-Masila will look a treat on his wedding pictures today.

Price said: “The big fella’s getting married tomorrow so I don’t think his Mrs will be too happy with the cut under the eye.”

Mamo hobbled off the field in the closing stages.

“Not quite sure on Mamo. He’ll go for scans over the weekend but hopefully it’s nothing too serious,” said Price.

Mamo started the game at centre due to Atkins withdrawing through illness.

Price said: “Ryan fell sick on Thursday morning so he never trained on our captain’s run.

“He was quite ill yesterday at training. We sent him home and gave him until this morning but he’s lost a couple of kilos and he’s been crook.

“I thought Jake Mamo did a really good job at left centre.

It’s important through your pre-season in your training that you plan for these types of situations because it’s a marathon and you need players to be able to be versatile and play different positions.

“We’re very fortunate in that we’ve got a number of players who can do that. And we structured our training around that.”

Gareth Widdop, the St George-Illawarra Dragons stand-off who will be joining Wire next season, dislocated his shoulder for the third time in two seasons yesterday.

Price said: “I haven’t spoken to Gareth. They’ve got a good medical staff at the Dragons and he’ll be well looked after.

“I don’t know the full extent so it’s quite early for me to say what’s going to happen but they’ve got a good crew there and I’m sure his health will be first class.”
