IN the latest in our Facebook Live Q&As with Wire stars, Dec Patton sat down with us to answer questions from supporters.

As a Warrington-born player, what do you enjoy most about playing for your hometown team?

Carole Watson

DP: I used to come and watch Warrington all the time. I’ve been a fan and watched them win trophies so hopefully that’s what we can do this year.

Playing in front of the fans is brilliant. I see young kids watching and think back to when I was in their shoes and hopefully they will be in mine one day – that’s the joy I get out of it.

Do you think Warrington-born players come under more scrutiny playing for The Wire than those players who are brought in?

Mike James

DP: Just in general? I don’t think so. I’d like to think people think it’s a good thing that we’re bringing local lads through to the first team.

People have their off-days – we never do it on purpose so I like to think we’re all treated equally.

Hiya Dec, with being one of our own, there are lots of Wire fans who want you to succeed. Does it spur you on knowing that?

Michelle Parker

DP: Yeah, definitely. When they’re singing and we’re winning, it is a good feeling.

To know that people want me to do well is a bonus for me.

Warrington Guardian:

How did you feel when Pricey put faith in you to step in for Kev Brown for the whole season?

Adam Hanglin

DP: Obviously, I was wanting to play and I was pushing for it but when he gave me the nod, I was over the moon.

It’s been a long time coming but not in the nicest of circumstances given what happened to Kev as he’s a good friend.

I’m slowly getting into it now and I’m enjoying myself.

Do you feel your performances are getting better with regular game time and do you feel you can improve even more?

Craig Houghton

DP: Definitely – I’ve got a long way to go. I know I can be a lot better than I am but I’m getting a lot of confidence each week.

Last year, I was sat on the bench a lot and coming on at hooker. I’m just getting used to half-back again and it’s where I want to be playing so there’s definitely more to come.

How much are you enjoying playing alongside Blake Austin?

Daniel Murphy

DP: It’s different – he brings the spark that was missing for us. He’s an exciting player and loves his rugby.

He helps us both out as a partnership and I’m really enjoying it.

How do you feel your game has developed through playing alongside Blake?

Bec Smalley

DP: A lot because I’m learning things from Blake that I haven’t from other players.

He picks me up on different stuff and how to help myself, the team and us as a pair. It does take time to gel but we’re getting there.

Half-backs come under a lot of scrutiny for their performances – how do you deal with social media comments and digs?

Andy Bibby

DP: You can’t pay attention to them. You could be the best player in the world or play the best game you’ve ever played but there will always be someone to put you down.

I take the right criticism from the right people and I don’t listen to anything else.

Warrington Guardian:

What do you make of Gareth Widdop’s signing for next year?

Ian Daintith

DP: He’s a world-class player. We’ve seen him do what he does in the NRL for years so I think he’ll be a great addition to the team.

For people like myself, he will be great to learn from so it’s an exciting signing.

Pick one teammate that you think has made a really strong start to the season and tell us why you think so?

Dave Carter

DP: I think there’s been a few. Daz Clark has been up there.

I know he’s my best mate but if I had to pick one, I’d pick Joe Philbin. He’s picked up where he left off last year and got himself a starting spot from it.

We’re all noticing what he’s doing when he’s making that impact, whether he’s starting or coming off the bench so if I had to pick one, it would be him.

How is Steve Price in the dressing rooms after you’ve had a defeat or a poor team performance?

Sean Alan Spencer

DP: It depends how bad the defeat is or how badly we’ve played!

He’s pretty good and level-headed. He doesn’t expect us to win every game by 100 points but he can blow his lid on occasion!

Are you and the lads looking forward to playing at Anfield for Magic Weekend? Do you think Tottenham’s new stadium would be a good place to hold the 2020 Magic Weekend?

Rob Smith

DP: I’ve been lucky enough to play at Old Trafford and Wembley, so it’s another big stadium even if they’re not a big club (Dec is a big Manchester United fan). We are all excited though.

I’ve seen the pictures of Tottenham’s stadium and it looks unreal. I don’t see why not.

Who is the best player you have played against?

Steven Dolman

DP: That’s a really hard one. I don’t think I can answer it as there’s been a couple. My head’s gone blank – there’s too many!

Is it our year?

Josh Jones

DP: I really do hope so – I think we’ve got a really good chance with the squad we have.

I know we seem to say it ever year but I genuinely do hope so.

Who’s better – you or your dad? (Lee Westwood, head coach of The Wire’s women’s team)

Neil Morgan

DP: There’s only one answer to that one – me!
