SADLY one of our long-time bailiffs, Tony Cope, passed away last week in hospital after a serious cycling accident in Speke.

A Crowdfunding page has been setup in his memory and if anyone wishes to donate they can do so on the following link – https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/inmemoryofanthonycope?utm_id=106. Our condolences to his family at this sad time.

Ian McCausland managed to fit in a short but productive session at our High Legh fishery last week, landing seven carp that had obviously taken an almost addictive liking to his specially prepared and treated cubed bread pop-ups.

Slightly bizarre, but they obviously work. Nothing massive – all around the eight to 10lbs mark – but Ian was more than happy.

Ian Street, on my advice, decided to try Arley Reservoir on his day off on Monday and managed three decent bream on feeder and double maggot – two of which came in the last thirty minutes of his four-hour session.

Could it have been more if he had stayed fishing for a bit longer? Well, we’ll never know but that’s angling and anyway, it was pleasant weather.

The Monday disabled and over 60s match on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Farm Road saw George Barber – aka ‘The Breadman’ – make the most of his bridge-hole draw to secure a win with 5lbs 1ozs 4drs of skimmers and roach taken on pole and bread punch tactics. Jimmy Byrne was in second place with a weight of 3-6-4.

The Mount at Buckley benefitted from a good stocking of mainly roach and skimmer bream on Saturday thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, who netted and transported the fish

The Mount is one of our popular fisheries with safe, locked parking for members.

Our AGM took place last Thursday and along with some good banter with members in attendance, it was an enjoyable evening all round.

Thanks to Grappenhall Ex-Servicemens Club for their hospitality and Martin at the Daltons for the excellent buffet.

Keep those catch reports coming – good, bad, or indifferent – as they help follow members to weigh up how waters are fishing to plan their outings and give me something to write about!
