NORTH Ferriby United’s record has officially been expunged, leaving Warrington Town among others counting the cost.

The East Yorkshire club, who were already all but doomed to relegation, were wound up last week and now the Northern Premier League has confirmed their record has been wiped out in accordance with FA guidelines.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR WARRINGTON TOWN?

Unfortunately, this means Yellows have lost six hard-earned points through no fault of their own having beaten the Villagers 5-0 and 4-0 in their two fixtures this campaign.

They are not the only team in this situation, but they will feel it keenly in an extremely tight title race.

Rivals Farsley Celtic have also lost six points and 10 goals in goal difference as opposed to Town’s nine.

However, the biggest beneficiaries at the top end of the table appear to be South Shields, who were one of only two teams who lost to North Ferriby this season having gone down 3-0 to the strugglers back in August.

Shields won the reverse fixture 6-2 so they only lose three points from their record and will be just one goal worse off in goal difference.

This means Yellows drop to third in the revised table – still four points behind Farsley, but they now have another team between themselves and top spot.

Here is the revised top three:

WHAT DO THE REMAINING FIXTURES LOOK LIKE?

All three teams involved in the title race have seven games remaining, with Yellows welcoming play-off chasing Gainsborough Trinity to Cantilever Park in their next fixture on Saturday.

As the weather closed in last weekend, all three saw their games postponed and dates for the rearranged fixtures are yet to be finalised.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YELLOWS DO NOT FINISH FIRST?

There is only one automatic promotion place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, so the team finishing first will go straight into the National League North.

The next four teams will contest the play-offs, with semi-finals being played over one leg at the home ground of the highest-finishing team – second vs fifth and third vs fourth.

The winners of the two semi-finals will then face off in the final, with the highest-ranked team playing host – but this year even winning that game does not guarantee promotion.

Whoever comes through the play-offs will face a final “super play-off” against the winners of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Central play-offs – currently containing Stourbridge, Kings Lynn Town, Stratford Town and Alvechurch – for the last place in the National League North.
