AHEAD of a trip to Wakefield Trinity tonight, Steve Price says his Warrington Wolves side still have areas of their game to develop and improve upon.

With five wins from six Super League games in 2019, The Wire sit second having made a solid start to the campaign.

However, concerns have been raised at perceived lapses in concentration by the team when in positions of strength.

On Friday, The Wire held a commanding 18-0 lead over Wigan but allowed their neighbours to close back to within six points before eventually closing out a 25-12 win.

Price is not overly concerned and says it is all part of the building process but admits his side do need to improve on that score, starting with tonight’s trip to the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

“There was a block in Friday’s game that we weren’t happy with,” he said.

“That’s been addressed, and we’ll continue to work hard in order to get that right performance.

“Having said that, it’s only early days. It’s about little steps here rather than big blocks.

“We need to just keep ticking away and growing as individuals and as a group.

“I feel we’re doing that and the bigger picture will take care of itself.

“There have been times when we’ve been really good, but we do need to concentrate better in certain aspects.

“There’s a few things we’ve addressed and we’ll keep working hard on them.”

Having named the same 17 for the past two games, Price will be forced into at least one change as Ben Westwood misses out on the trip to his former side having been sent off against Wigan.

He has been hit with a four-match ban after being charged with a Grade D headbutt on Morgan Escare, meaning he will not be available again until Easter.

Harvey Livett has replaced him in Wolves' 19-man squad and he looks set to contend with Jason Clark and Lama Tasi for Westwood's loose forward spot.

Wakefield are injury-stricken by contrast – with star left-edge duo Tom Johnstone and Bill Tupou among this missing – but Price says his side know to “expect the unexpected” from Chris Chester’s men.

With a turnaround of just six days from the Wigan game, it has been a low-key week in training for The Wire as Price looks to keep his squad fresh.

“There’s been a fair bit of recovery work, especially on Sunday,” he said.

“We had a review and turned the legs over before another session on Monday.

“It wasn’t full intensity because we want to make sure we’re at peak performance for Thursday.

“We’re expecting another tough game. They have some big boys through the middle that we’ll have to defend with a good, hard-nosed performance.

“We expect the unexpected from anybody. We’re always well prepared and we will be for Thursday.”
