BEN Vickers put in a real captain’s performance for Warrington Hockey Club’s men’s first team.

He demonstrated his goalscoring prowess by smashing five goals past Preston in an 8-0 victory for his side.

Bertie Houghton, Richard Cook and Jordan Callum were also on the scoresheet for Warrington as they completely dominated their helpless visitors.

Unfortunately, the women’s firsts could not follow suit as they ended a fine season with a disappointing defeat to Neston’s seconds, meaning they just missed out on promotion to Cheshire Women's Hockey League Division One.

Despite multiple saves from Tracy Jackson and great work in defence from Carrie Wright, Dawn Harrington and Kirsty Anderson, Warrington found themselves 2-0 down at the break.

Neston then repelled several Warrington attacks in the second half before going on to complete a 4-0 victory.

The women’s seconds were also beaten by Neston – finding themselves two goals down early to their third team.

They were unable to capitalise on several short corner chances in the second half before going down to a 4-0 defeat.

The men’s seconds also conceded four in defeat but did manage to get themselves on the scoresheet in a 4-1 loss to Bebington.
