DARYL Clark’s “attitude of wanting to be the very best” has led to his sparkling form, Warrington Wolves head coach Steve Price says.

The hooker has enjoyed a superb start to the season for The Wire and has played an integral role in each of their five victories so far.

Clark was voted man of the match by Warrington Guardian readers for the third game running for his display in Friday’s 25-12 win over Wigan Warriors and Price has hailed the England international as “exceptional.”

However, he also praised the role of the players around him for setting a platform for the 26-year-old to shine.

“I think he’s been exceptional,” he said.

“He’s playing some good, gritty rugby at the moment but if the middles aren’t generating any ruck speed in front of him, it nullifies his game.

“We talk about selfless acts here and we’re team-first, but he is playing some really good footy.

“Daryl has the attitude of wanting to be the very best.

“He’s also worked hard to get his body in peak condition through what he’s doing in training.

“You hit a certain age in life where you understand who you are as a football player and what people can do around you to help you.

“He’s got some senior players around him that will help him to keep growing.”

Clark has played 80 minutes in each of the past three games and may do the same at Wakefield Trinity on Thursday.
