STEVE Price was pleased with the win but felt his Warrington Wolves side could have made it easier on themselves.

Leading 18-0 with tries from Jake Mamo, Stefan Ratchford and Josh Charnley, they ended up conceding two tries while Blake Austin was off the field for a ‘head test’ and needed a Dec Patton drop goal to settle the nerves.

After Ben Westwood was sent off, and Patton plus Wigan’s Willie Isa were sin-binned, following a brawl it took a Jack Hughes try to settle matters in the closing moments.

“I thought we played some really good footy in patches,” said Price.

“I thought at 18-0 we had a really good opportunity to go to 24-0 and close the game out.

“Credit to Wigan there. They’ve been a benchmark footy team for a number of years and are last year’s premiers, they’re a resilient mob and they weren’t going to go away.

“We knew that and I thought they had a red-hot crack.

“Credit to our boys to hang tough, just keep chipping away, stay in the fight. And to come away with the win is very pleasing.

“They showed an amount of resilience and backbone last year and it’s carried on to this year.

“But as I said we had a really good opportunity to close that game out.

“Through certain aspects of the game we need to be better and we’ll work on that, but I thought there were some really good performers.

“I thought Daryl Clark was outstanding tonight, Jack Hughes, Stefan Ratchford, Jason Clark – a number of really good performances.

“Jason has been pretty consistent and chipping away. He did a lot of the dirty work for us tonight which doesn’t go unnoticed from our behalf.”
