Askam 34 Crosfields 16
BEING reduced to 11 men at one point proved fatal for Crosfields as they were beaten in Cumbria.
They were already 24-6 down when they lost Jack Lewis and Jordan Williams to the sin bin within two minutes of each other.
With them went Soap’s chances of victory as hosts Askam racked up 10 more points in that period to take the game beyond them.
Soap, for whom John Whittaker crossed in the first half, fought back late on as Nathan Taylor and Luke Walker crossed, but it proved too little too late for Ian Boden’s side.
“We prepared well and took a strong team up to Cumbria, but unfortunately the few players missing from our pack was a big difference,” Boden said.
“We made numerous uncharacteristic mistakes, all in the same game. Let’s hope the errors are out of our system for the rest of the season.
“Our performance was not what we expect and the players are genuinely frustrated with themselves.
“We started poorly on the receiving end of the kick off which we allowed into touch.
“It put us under pressure and we never got a genuine grip of the game from then onwards.”
