PAUL Carden credited his Warrington Town side for the way they did not allow a pre-match injury to Josh Amis to knock them off course in Saturday’s win at Mickleover Sports.

The in-form frontman, who has scored 10 goals in his past nine appearances, was due to start for Yellows but sustained a groin injury in the warm-up.

Bohan Dixon came in to replace him and played his part in a 4-1 win which took Town four points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Carden confirmed Amis will not train on Tuesday in order for him to have further treatment on the injury but hailed the way his side adapted to his absence.

“It can be unsettling when you lose a player in the warm-up, but thankfully we’ve got good players who can come in and take the shift on to get the job done,” he said.

“In the warm-up Josh has felt his groin.

“I just said to him there was no point him starting, it going properly after 10 minutes and losing him long-term.

“To be fair to Bohan, he’s had an impact in the game.

“It was a really good win in difficult conditions again.

“From the first minute, we were in control of the game.”

Tony Gray, Dylan Vassallo, Jack Mackreth and Robbie Evans were on target for Town against the strugglers as they stretched their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Carden was impressed with the performance of Welsh midfielder Evans - who started for the first time since January 19 - in particular as he came back into central midfield, with previous incumbent Shaun Beeley moving to right-back in a pre-meditated tactical switch.

“Robbie Evans had an intent about him that was telling me not to be leaving him out again,” he said.

“With the way he played – he won a 50/50 in the first few seconds and that set the tone for him and us to be as convincing as we were to get the result.

“I said to the lads that I’d made a couple of changes but nobody was dropped. It has to be horses for courses at times.

“We’d had a report to say Mickleover’s left winger was decent and was their outlet, so I wanted Beels to handle that and also give us more attacking threat from right-back.”
