THE new season kicks off in earnest for Latchford Albion this weekend.

Albion's first team will start their North West Men's League Division One campaign at Wigan St Cuthberts.

The tough test will be the first under the new coaching set up of Martyn Ellis, Dave Rudd and Dave Yii.

Following a positive pre-season, Albion feel ready for the season's challenges and are treating this Saturday's opening contest as an opportunity to lay down a marker in a strong league.

Then on Sunday the club will host Victoria Park Stadium's first official game of women's rugby league.

The United Kingdom Armed Forces will take on 2018 Grand Final winners Wigan Warriors at 2pm.

Entry is £3 adults, £1 children and refreshments will be available from noon.

Lots of eyes will be focused on Division Three on the opening weekend too, with four Warrington teams in action.

Burtonwood Bridge will host Culcheth Eagles, while Crosfields A will visit Eccleston Lions.

Woolston Rovers A, see adjacent story, will entertain Leigh East A.

In Division Five, Rylands Sharks will commence their campaign at home to Higginshaw.

All of the men's games are scheduled for 2.30pm kick offs.
