WARRINGTON Town deserved a point from their Cheshire derby against Nantwich Town, boss Paul Carden said after watching the sides share six goals.

Tony Gray’s injury-time leveller rescued a point for the hosts, who came from 3-1 down to earn a result that sends them top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Town have now gained nine points with goals scored in the 85th minute or later this season and Carden says being willing to keep going until the end is one of his squad’s key traits.

He slammed a “casual” performance from his side before the break as the Dabbers went into half time 3-2 up.

“Going until the final whistle and not giving up is an unbelievable trait to have as a squad of players and it’s proved today,” he said.

“They’re a good team, but if you let a good team be just that you’re going to struggle.

“I thought we were too casual in the first half. We took it too easy and we didn’t have any intensity about us apart from one move where we scored a great goal.

“We weren’t good in the first half. Their goals were poor from our point of view.

“To be fair, we put crosses into the box in the second half and we had chances.

“A point was more than deserved after the second half because I don’t think they went near our goal after half time.”

Danny Glover scored twice to put Nantwich in control after Mark Roberts had cancelled out Sean Cooke’s opener.

Yellows could have found themselves further in the mire had Tony McMillan not saved Cooke’s penalty with his side 1-0 down.

Josh Amis’ 10th goal in eight appearances helped start Town’s fightback, which was eventually completed when Gray steered home a corner deep into stoppage time.

“The two players in the back line who you can usually hang your hat on are the culprits for their goals,” Carden said.

“To be fair to Dave Raven, he’s not been well all week.

“It shows the type of lad he is to get up and want to play, but I thought he looked a bit jaded and he’ll know that himself.

“There were circumstances in the moves that led to each goal that we could have been better in – our two wide players could have done more on the halfway line for the first and second goals.

“We can’t give teams a leg-up, but I’m delighted with the second-half performance because we played well.

“We’ve taken a point at home against a good side who score goals.

“Dave Cooke has his team drilled and they’ve got good players who are proven at this level.

“I just thought we gifted them their opportunities whereas we worked hard for ours.”

One sour note for Yellows was an injury to winger Jack Dunn, who was forced off just after half time with hamstring injury.

Carden says Dunn will be assessed ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Workington.

“Dunny has these problems with his hamstrings and unfortunately it’s gone again,” he said.

“He’s pushed the ball down the line and as he’s opened up, he’s felt it go.

“We’ll just have to see how it is in the next couple of days. Hopefully it settles down and its not too bad.”
