Lymm 17 Kirkby Lonsdale 31

RELEGATION fears continue to linger around Crouchley Lane as Lymm slipped to yet another defeat.

Kirkby Lonsdale came away with the spoils on Saturday and stretched the gap between themselves and Adam Fletcher’s side to an ominous 13 points.

Only rock-bottom Wilmslow and second-bottom Vale of Lune have won fewer games than Lymm this season – and Fletcher’s men visit the latter on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.

They travel north having suffered back-to-back defeats, with Kirkby Lonsdale taking the lead in Saturday’s game as Lymm were not alert to a quick-tap penalty and the visitors took advantage to score the game’s first try.

Tom Shard reduced the deficit with a penalty after a visiting player was yellow-carded, but Lymm could not make the most of their numerical advantage.

They gave away a penalty to allow Kirkby Lonsdale up the field and another defensive lapse allowed them to score their second try.

However, after another of the visitors’ players saw yellow, Lymm this time took advantage as James Kimber hit an excellent line from a scrum to cross, with Shard converting.

Lymm started the second half just four points in arrears, but it would be Kirkby Lonsdale who got the crucial next score to give themselves more of a cushion.

They then scored a penalty as Jake Ashall and Gav Woods picked up yellow cards for Lymm, but the hosts put themselves in contention for a losing bonus point when Matty Hands crashed over.

Unfortunately, it proved a false dawn as the final try went to the visitors, who secured a bonus point of their own.
