LONG-SERVING defender Jay McCarten has left Warrington Town on loan.

The centre-half has joined Evo-Stik Premier Division rivals Bamber Bridge on a month-long deal.

McCarten, 28, is club captain at Cantilever Park but has missed more than a year of action due to a serious ankle injury.

“Jay’s upped his training levels and now he’s at a point where he’s looking to get some game time,” Yellows boss Paul Carden said.

“He’s been out for more than 12 months now so there’s no point rushing him, but we do need to get him back.

“He will be a great player to have back for the last eight to 10 games but he needs to get up to speed and playing some football.”

McCarten is the only member of the squad that won promotion to the Evo-Stik Premier Division in 2016 to still be at the club.

He also played in the club's famous 1-0 FA Cup first-round win over Exeter City in 2014.
