TWO talented rowers are in the running to represent Warrington on the national stage.

Thanks to their performances at the Warrington Youth Rowing Indoor Championships, Cardinal Newman High School’s Alfie Fairhall and Birchwood Community High School’s Amy Groves wob the year eight boys and girls competitions respectively.

That puts them in a good position to compete at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships, which we be held next month at London’s Copper Box Arena.

Almost 200 schoolchildren from eight schools around Warrington defied freezing conditions to take part at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, with many achieving personal-best scores.

Beamont Collegiate Academy dominated the year nine age group as Kristers Graudins won the boys’ race and Megan Thomason did the same for the girls.

Beamont also provided the winner of the year 10 boys’ competition as Jack Davies took top prize, with Lymm High School’s Alice Shields claiming victory in the girls’ race.
