TOM Fahey did not allow the gales to put him off a trip to Grey Mist Mere.

He was the only angler booked on for an overnight session and was rewarded after battening down the hatches with a cracking mirror carp, weighing 17-4-0, that took a fancy to his sticky krill offering.

Nice one Tom!

Newcomers Mark Jones and son Jake did a Saturday night session on the Mount at Buckley and were inevitably caught in Sunday's strong winds.

However the youngster slept throughout and was oblivious to gusts battering the Bivvi.

It was their first trip to one of our waters and, despite a fe bent pegs and losing his Bivvi skin to the bank-side bushes, Mark was happy with two carp he netted.

I want to thank David Bright and his son Joe.

After being told by a passer-by that a tree had blown down across the centre track at Sandiway they immediately wound in their rods and assessed the situation.

As luck would have it, and although not an ideal tool for the job, they had a reciprocating saw in their vehicle and set to work.

The result? A job well done.

Weights plummeted in our Mersey Series match on Sunday and veteran Jim Gannon needed only 1-12-0 to take his first win of 2019.

He fished a groundbait feeder and maggot for his catch of 10 roach.

However it was a close-run thing as second-placed Bas Chambers weighed in the same number of fish but was an ounce light with 1-11-0.

Bites were scarce at a partially iced-over Woodshaw Reservoir for our disabled and over 60s match on Monday.

Only four anglers that framed caught and Alan Brown's single bite resulted in a small carp of 1-13-0 that was enough to secure a victory.

Runner-up Joe Garry only landed one fish too, weighing in at 0-8-12.
