BEN Currie will not be fit for Warrington Wolves' season opener against Leeds Rhinos, head coach Steve Price has confirmed.

The second-rower is in the final stages of his recovery from a second anterior cruciate knee ligament injury in as many years and has resumed training with the team.

However, Price says the England international still has "a few boxes to tick" before returning to action and officially ruled him out of the game at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on February 2.

The Wire are also continuing to monitor Ben Murdoch-Masila's recovery from calf surgery as well as Jack Johnson's rehabilitation from the broken leg he suffered last March.

"Ben Currie is doing really well. He’s progressing and is doing everything that’s required of him," he said.

"He’s taking part in our scrimmage sessions, but he certainly won’t be playing in round one.

"He’s got a few more boxes to tick. Once he does that he will be raring to go but he’s still a couple of weeks away as yet.

"Benny Murdoch is a week-to-week proposition at the moment and Jack Johnson is still a fair way away."

The Wire suffered no new injuries in yesterday's 38-12 friendly win over Widnes Vikings while the vast majority of front-line players will not be considered for selection for Saturday's game against Rochdale Hornets.

Price said the full make-up of his team for the game at the Crown Oil Arena is yet to be fully decided but that it will be a predominantly young side that takes the field.
