THERE were victories and season’s best times galore for Warrington Athletics Club members at the latest Sale Harriers open indoor meeting.

The under 17s age group proved particularly prolific at Manchester’s Sportcity, with Ashley Nemits winning her 200m race in 25.69secs – her best time of the season.

Charlotte Stokes was also a winner over the same distance in a new season’s best time of 28.82secs, while Emily Jackson also set a new mark for the campaign as she finished her race in 27.91secs – a time good enough for third place.

Also over 200m, Elizabeth Wright set a new personal best as she won her under 20s race in 28.13secs, while Daniel Richardson (23.77secs), Dominic Ellis (23.77secs) and Phil Knowles (27.70secs) all ran their best times of the season.

Knowles finished second in his over 55s race, while Richardson and Ellis recorded times good enough for third and fourth place respectively.

Shauna Clarke had a successful afternoon in the under 15s age group as she won over 200m in a season’s-best 30.19secs

Clarke then went on to set a new personal-best 60m time of 8.91secs to finish fifth.

Masters athlete Neal Petley was also a winner as he was first home in the over 50s 60m hurdles race, stopping the clock at 10.12secs.

Ruby Smith was the only Warrington athlete to take part in the field event as she finished 16th in the mixed under 15s and under 17s shot putt.

Elsewhere, Warrington Athletics Club veteran Colin Bishop won the over 55s age group at Sunday’s Wirral Way Trail half-marathon.

Bishop’s time of 1hour 21mins 35secs was enough to see him place sixth overall.

Slightly further afield, Warrington clubmate Paul Bagan welcomed 2019 in sunnier climes as he ran the Barcelona San Silvestre Twilight 10km road race on New Year’s Eve.

He finished the race in 35mins 52secs which would have placed him 305th overall, but his timing chip failed and his result was not recorded.
