PHIL Archer has competed at the very top of golf alongside some of the world’s best players.

Now, the Warrington native is focused on helping others develop their game.

Archer – a European Tour veteran who has also appeared at four major tournaments – is helping out at the state-of-the-art coaching facilities at Poulton Park Golf Club, where he is the resident professional.

The Cinnamon Brow club uses video analysis and a dedicated short game area to help golfers of any age and ability to improve.

Despite still enjoying plenty of success in Manchester and District Alliance and PGA competitions, Archer says he is happy to be focused on teaching.

“I really enjoy the challenge of improving and setting out a plan for any standard of golfer,” he said.

“The players golf academy is growing all the time now, it has taken some time for me personally to get the word out that I am teaching more now than playing.

“Future development includes growing the reputation of the players golf academy to one of the best in the area.

“In 2019, we will have a full year of golfing clinics going on for all standards of golfer, including all aspects of the game.”

Having first picked up a club at Birchwood Golf Club, Archer went on to play in more than 250 European tour events.

He had four second-place finishes, while his four major appearances saw him compete twice at both the US Open and the Open Championship.

Archer was also part of the Great Britain and Ireland team that won the Seve Trophy in 2007 as well as also representing them in PGA Cups against the USA.

On the local scene, his career has seen him clock up over 300 wins in regional and national tournaments.

“The teaching facilities are very good now at Poulton Park,” he said.

“Freddy Valenti built the indoor swing studio four years ago and we have kitted it out with top-of-the-range Flightscope technology, all used with video analysis.

“That – along with the two short game areas, one all weather and one USGA-spec chipping green – makes it an all-round teaching experience.”
