JACK Hughes has given Wire fans an early Christmas present by signing a new contract with the club.

The second rower has put pen-to-paper on a three-year extension to his current deal, which will keep him at The Halliwell Jones Stadium until the end of the 2022 season.

Hughes missed just one game in 2018 and has made 99 appearances in total since joining from Wigan ahead of the 2016 campaign.

A new deal rounds off an excellent year for the 26-year-old, who was rewarded for his consistent Wire performances by being named England Knights captain for the season-ending tour to Papua New Guinea.

Head coach Steve Price described Hughes as “the ultimate club person” and sees him becoming an even bigger part of the team’s leadership group.

“It’s great news for our club to re-sign Jack. He’s been an integral part of our team this year and I love everything that he stands for,” he said.

“He does all the little things that often go unnoticed and typifies our DNA.

“He’s the ultimate club person and is a player who all team members love to play alongside.

“I was really pleased with his selection as England Knights captain and I see him playing a big part within the leadership of our club over the years to come.”
