A COMPOSED display helped Warrington Hockey Club’s men’s first team stun league leaders Didsbury Northern fourths on Saturday.
Ben Vickers’ short-corner strike gave them the lead before Rob Powell finished a great move involving Scott McCue and AJ Edwards to double the advantage.
Didsbury pulled one back to set up a grandstand finish, but Warrington held on for an impressive 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile, an inspired goalkeeping performance meant that, despite relentless pressure, the women’s firsts had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Sale’s seconds.
The women’s seconds secured a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Oswestry – with Molly Rudd and Jenny Fox on target – while the men’s seconds went down 3-0 to Winnington Park’s thirds.
