A TEENAGE Warrington runner has bounced straight into the UK top 10 rankings after making his 10k debut.

Lymm High School student Jordan Jones, the youngest competitor in the race at 16, finished 22nd in the Cheshire 10k in Arley on Saturday, with his 33mins 03secs time placing him eighth in the country's rankings at his age group.

The Grappenhall runner finished two places and twosecs behind his dad, Nick, who claimed a bronze medal in the over 40s race.

Fellow Warrington Athletics Club stalwart Graham Green won the V50 category after crossing the line 38th overall with 34.33mins.

Forty-fourth placed Paul Bagan, 35mins 03secs, was fifth V40 and Mervyn Ward, 41mins 42secs, was second in the V60 category.

Graham's nephew and clubmate Jack Green continued his good form in Australia when he competed for Sydney University Athletics Club in the New South Wales 3000m Championship at Sydney Olympic Park.

Running in the C race, Green finished fourth – smashing his personal best time by almost 10secs with 8mins 45.35secs.

Three Warrington AC runners contested the English Schools Cross Country Cup at two venues.

Jess Connolly was second and Maisie Bell, 16th, in helping their Bridgewater High team finish fifth in the intermediate girls' race at the West Central regional event at Chetwynd Deer Park in Newport, Shropshire.

Amelia Smithers was 66th in the North West race at Cartmel Race Course but was not one of the counting runners for her Loreto team which finished second to qualify for the final.

Three Warrington AC individual wins and two team successes were achieved in the second round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League at Manchester University Playing Fields on Saturday.

Joe Buckley, Orla Gregory and David Gill proved to be too good for the field in their age groups.

Buckley's victory in the under 17s men’s race with 18mins 38secs, supported by Isaaq Ataullah, sixth in 19mins 56secs, and Joe Roberts, 12th in 20min 28secs, sealed the team prize.

Gregory was a convincing winner of the under 15s girls' race in 14mins 53secs.

Gill's first place came in the over 60s race in 40mins 47secs.

The 33mins 59secs clocked by Luke Gamble for 26th spot in the senior men's race was good enough for second in the under 20s event.

Along with Daniel Fox, 46th overall and sixth under 20 in 34mins 43secs, as well as Charlie Turnbull, 112th overall and 11th under 20 in 36mins 46secs, they won the under 20s team competition.

Bronze place was secured by Dave Norman in the over 55s race after finishing 178th overall in 38mins 26secs.

Further highlights included Erik Marshall sealing fourth spot in 10mins 18secs in the under 13s boys' race.

Eva Ferris, 12th in 16mins 23secs, and Jasmine Jones, 39th in 18mins 59secs, followed home Gregory to finish fifth in the under 15s girls' race.

Rachel McQuillan was 113th senior woman in 31mins 30secs to finish 10th under 20 woman.

Daniel Newman, 198th in 38mins 55secs, was 10th over 50; Steve Burthem, 274th in 41mins 15secs, was 13th over 55.

Under 17s runners Madeline Anderson and Fay Humphreys finished 19th and 20th with 28mins 29secs and 38mins respectively.

At under 11s level, Jacob Pryor was 16th and Spencer Astbury 34th in the boys' race with times of 7mins 19secs and 7mins 56secs respectively.

In the girls' race, Esme Heavey and Eva Jha finished 16th and 17th with times of 7mins 42secs and 7mins 45secs respectively while Lily-Mae Leary was 43rd in 8mins 23secs and identical twins Cara and Sinead Gregory were 50th and 51st in 8mins 31secs and 8mins 32secs respectively.

Esme, Eva and Lily-Mae counted for the team finishing eighth with 76 points.

Emily Entwistle led the under13s girls' team home in 11th place in 11mins 33secs, with Molly Wormald 21st in 12mins exactly and Lucie Davies 33rd in 12mins 27secs. Together they finished eighth team.

The B team of Harriet Bell 36th in 12mins 34secs, Alice Nicholson 41st in 12mins 38secs and Corin Smith 63rd in 13mins 24secs finished 15th and were seventh B team.

The squad were completed by Rhiannon Wilkes 71st and Evie Owen 77th in 13mins 48secs and 14mins 13secs respectively.
