Warrington Town 1 Stockport County 2

WARRINGTON Town’s participation in cup competitions for this season is over after they bowed out of the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Josh Amis gave them an early lead against Stockport County at Cantilever Park, but goals from Festus Arthur and Connor Dimaio sent the National League North side through.

Having already been knocked out of the FA Cup, FA Trophy and the Integro League Cup, success in the Evo-Stik Premier Division is now the sole focus of Paul Carden’s side.

Yellows, who gave a debut to ex-Crystal Palace midfielder Alex Marrow, fielded a mixture of first-team players and youngsters as they kicked off their fourth cup competition of the season.

They made the perfect start when Dylan Vassallo made a strong run down the right wing and stood up the perfect cross for an unmarked Amis to head home.

Stockport fielded several youngsters themselves and they equalised midway through the half.

Will Holt curled in a dangerous corner and Arthur, who had come up from the back, glanced a header beyond Joe Williams in the Town goal.

County finished the first half in the ascendency – with Marrow blocking Szymon Czubik’s goalbound shot – but they could not force another goal before the break.

Midway through the second half, Dom Reid was forced off injured and with all three substitutes used, Yellows were reduced to 10 men.

Barely a minute after Reid was carried from the field, Stockport hit the front as Dimaio powered an unstoppable effort past Williams from the edge of the area.

Yellows were never able to string together a substantial period of pressure after falling behind, and Stockport comfortably saw out the victory.
