ALDERLEY Edge Golf Club staged the first round of Simister Cup action, which ended up a close affair, writes Nathan Okell.

Charles Hill took the lead with a score of 39 – a point higher that Gray Johnstone, Joe Yakub and Tom McDermott.

It was also tight for Edge’s ladies in their latest Bridgestone medal, with Celia Berent in top spot on 75, ahead of Wendy Rule and Helen Williams, both on 76.

Styal Golf Club's men enjoyed a tense Texas scramble.

Brown, Appleby, Weekes and Reaves led the way with 57.9.

They finished ahead of Roper, Grundy, Ravailhe and Ghost, who closed on 58.0, and Chadwick, Stevens, Murray and Dawson on 59.5.

The game format involves each golfer in the four-man team tee off, and the best position is chosen to continue from.

This continues with each shot until the ball is holed.

Styal seniors were also in action, playing a non-winter league stableford which needed a card play-off on 34 points to find a winner.

Peter Christie came out on top, crossing the line ahead of Keith Compson and Mike Burchell.

Styal ladies played out their medal winner’s final, which was won by Helen Billington with 75 – six less than Pam Higgins and Mel Hill.
