TWO of Warrington Rowing Club’s young stars have made their mark on a prestigious event in the United States.
Ella Stanhope and Libby Myers – who are both part of the junior section at the Howley Lane club – travelled to Massachusetts to take part in the Head of the Charles regatta.
The event is widely regarded as one of the stand-outs on the rowing calendar and attracts athletes from all over the world, with Warrington Rowing Club represented for only the third time in its history.
Stanhope and Myers competed in the women’s youth doubles event in a field of 43 crews and performed superbly, finishing in the top 10.
The Warrington pair completed the three-mile course along the River Charles in Boston in 21mins 59.786secs, which was good enough to see them finish in eighth place.
The duo also got to spend quality practice time with one of the stars of the sport – New Zealand’s two-time Olympic gold medallist Mahe Drysdale – in preparation for the event.
