HARVEY Livett hopes to return to form with England Knights against Papua New Guinea to cap off his successful year.

The 21-year-old held down the Warrington Wolves left second-row position for much of the year, after having previously featured mainly in the centres and halves.

With England star Ben Currie’s season ending early due to the requirement of a second knee reconstruction Livett stepped up to the plate but missed out on selection in the Super League semi-final and Grand Final at Old Trafford.

Now, after a week’s preparation in Brisbane, he has his sights on a second-row spot with England Knights against the Kumuls in Lae on Saturday and Port Moresby the following weekend.

“I’ve been happy with my year. I dipped a bit of form in the final few weeks but overall I’d never have thought I’d have played as many games as I did,” said the former Cardinal Newman High School student and Rylands Sharks junior, who made 17 starts and five appearances on the bench.

“I obviously thank Pricey (head coach Steve Price) for that.

“Hopefully I can get back into form in these two games in Papua New Guinea and then try to build for a big year next year.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, going over to Papua New Guinea. It’s going to be a really good experience.

“I was involved in the England under 16s a long time ago. We went over to France and got beat.

“I was young and probably didn’t really know what it was about to pull on an England shirt, but now it would mean a lot if selected and all the boys would say the same.”

It is the first time Livett has visited the southern hemisphere.

“I’m keeping out of the sun with my red hair,” he joked.

“I’ve spoken to Joe Philbin about what it’s like in Papua New Guinea because he was there last year with Ireland in the World Cup.

“He’s said about driving round with armed guards with you. I really don’t know what to expect.

“We’ve seen a clip. It looks a really mad experience. I’ve seen a clip on Twitter when Australia went over there. The locals were all running down the side of the bus trying to get in. I’m looking forward to it, it’ll be a really good experience.

“The main thing I want from the tour is to get selected, knuckle a back-row spot. I’d like to get a good experience and come back with two wins. That’ll be everyone’s aim.

“I’ve got a few weeks off after I come back, so I’ll then go away with the missus, get some good rest and then come back in ready to go again.”
