DANNY Walker says signing for hometown club Warrington Wolves “means the world” to him.

The Wire today confirmed the 19-year-old hooker as their fifth new signing for 2019 as he joins from Widnes Vikings on a three-year deal.

Wire sign Warrington-born hooker Walker

Walker was born in Warrington and played his junior rugby for Crosfields and Rylands Sharks before joining the Widnes academy.

However, he admits he is thrilled to be back home and despite starting his career with their rivals, Walker says rejoining Warrington was always on his mind.

“I can’t wait for it to happen, to actually pull on the primrose and blue and get out there to show what I’ve got,” he said.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do I just didn’t expect it to come as soon as it has.

“I’ve supported Warrington all of my life and my family has too.

“I used to stand on the terraces so it means the world to me to have signed.

“I’ve always kept an eye on Warrington and secretly had a little cheer if they got the win – unless it was against my former team of course.

“I can’t wait to get started and play with all the boys as there’s some exceptional talent.”

Walker, who shot to prominence with a superb display from the bench in Widnes’ Challenge Cup defeat to The Wire last year, is likely to contend with Declan Patton and Morgan Smith for the interchange hooker role in support of starting dummy-half Daryl Clark.

He gave Wire fans an insight as to what they can expect from him for the next three years.

“I hope to bring a little bit of speed and quicken things up off the back of some big fellas,” he said.

“I know Daz Clark does a good job of it at the minute but hopefully I can bring something a bit different, like a bit of aggression for a small lad.

“I just can’t wait to see what it brings.”
