DARYL Clark was by far the most popular Warrington Wolves player in the votes for this year's Man of Steel award.

Players from each Super League club were asked to provide their top three players of 2018, and the Wire hooker was picked by 41 of his peers.

10 of those players - Castleford trio Grant Millington, Liam Watts and Kieran Gill, Huddersfield's Kruise Leeming, Hull KR skipper Shaun Lunt, St Helens half-back Jonny Lomax, Saints youngsters Jake Spedding and Josh Eaves and Wakefield duo Kyle Wood and Reece Lyne - all had Clark as their number one pick.

Saints full-back Ben Barba won the overall award, but he listed Wire captain Chris Hill as his number one pick, while teammate and fellow nominee James Roby ranked Stefan Ratchford third.

Ratchford was ranked at number one by Castleford's Mike McMeeken, Saints winger Regan Grace and former Wire teammate Benjamin Jullien, now at Catalans.

Interestingly, Jullien was the only player to choose three Wire players, as he ranked Bryson Goodwin second and Clark third.

Goodwin was the first pick of St Helens' Luke Douglas and Wakefield's Anthony England, while Widnes man Macgraff Leuluai joined Barba in ranking Chris Hill first.

Tyrone Roberts, Jack Hughes, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Joe Philbin, George King, Josh Charnley and Ben Westwood were the other Wire players to feature in the voting.

Wolves were not without representation at the ceremony in Manchester, though, as they picked up the Club of the Year award.

WHO DID WIRE PLAYERS VOTE FOR?

Two players outside the three main Man of Steel nominees featured heavily on the Wire players' vote sheets.

Castleford hooker Paul McShane was picked by 12 Warrington players, with Hughes, Morgan Smith and Dec Patton ranking him first.

Another popular choice was Wakefield centre Bill Tupou, who was also chosen by 12 Wire stars and was the first choice of Hill, George King and Sitaleki Akauola.

Seven Wolves players plumped for Barba as their Man of Steel.
