PAUL Carden says Warrington Town’s FA Cup victory over AFC Telford United was their best display of the season so far.

Yellows stunned their visitors, who are flying high in the National League North, to reach the fourth qualifying round for only the third time in their history.

They are now just one game away from being in the draw for the first round proper with the likes of past cup winners Sunderland, Coventry City and Portsmouth among others.

Report: Yellows 2 AFC Telford 1

Carden says there was “no question” that his side deserved their victory at Cantilever Park despite a late rally from the Bucks.

He also said they will not change their style of play no matter who they face in the next round, the draw for which is on Monday afternoon.

“Obviously, it’s up there with our best displays of the season,” he told the Guardian.

“To a man, we were outstanding at both ends of the pitch.

“We supported each other, made blocks and there was no question about who deserved the win.

“You can see there is a fit, strong organised bunch of lads here.

“Whatever changes we make, they understand what is needed and they all back each other.

“They are running through brick walls for each other and they know everyone at the club is behind them.

“We need to keep momentum, no matter who we get. Whoever we draw, we won’t change our approach.

“Our success is what we do as a team and we understand what we need to do. We know how to get the best out of one another.”

Bohan Dixon put Yellows in front on the stroke of half time before Ben Garrity’s first Warrington goal doubled the lead just after the hour mark.

Daniel Udoh scrambled home in injury time for the visitors to set up a nervous finish, but Town did enough to hang on and avoid a replay.

While goalkeeper Tony McMillan’s clean sheet did not remain intact, Carden believes Telford did not deserve their goal and that it should have been ruled out.

“I said before the game that we needed to show them the respect they deserved,” he said.

“They are up there in the league above, but the respect is that they have 11 lads on the pitch having a go and that’s as far as it goes.

“We had to get at them and I thought we were a bit tetchy at times in the first half, but when we had energy in our play we caused them problems.

“Our shape and organisation in the second half was outstanding. They are the foundations of being successful and we’ve seen that again today.

“I thought their goal was a foul on Tony McMillan. When the ref blew, I thought he’d given us a foul.

“To be honest, I don’t think they deserved to score.”

Garrity was named as the official man of the match as he and midfield partner Robbie Evans put in another superb display in the team’s engine room.

However, Carden revealed Evans could easily have been lining up against Town today.

“I believe Telford had the chance to sign Robbie Evans but didn’t, which makes me scratch my head but we’ll leave them to it. Their loss is our gain,” he said.

“Ben and Robbie have been outstanding.

“Their understanding is getting better, there isn’t an element of the game they can’t do.

“The balance they are getting now is really evident.”
