WARRINGTON Town manager Paul Carden says having the tag of underdogs does not mean his side can relax in their FA Cup clash with AFC Telford United on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Yellows are potentially just two games away from a place in the first round proper, but they face a tough third qualifying round task at Cantilever Park against a side from the division above.

Both sides are flying high in their respective leagues – Town are top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division while Telford are sixth in the National League North.

Bucks manager Gavin Cowan was at Cantilever Park on Tuesday night to watch Warrington’s 1-0 win over Mickleover, and Carden thinks he got a false impression of his side from that game.

He called upon his players to play to their strengths and attack their visitors.

“Where we are in our own league and the standards we set bring their own pressures,” he said.

“We won’t be relaxing because we’re not favourites. We’ll be going out there wanting to win.

“We’ve come to understand our own strengths and weaknesses. Our strengths are when we attack and that’s what we’ll be doing on Saturday.

“We can’t treat it any differently because it’s a cup game.

“If their manager watched us against Mickleover, he’ll be telling his side they can get at us because we’re not good with the ball.

“We’ve got to show them the other side to us.

“They’re going to fancy it. Why shouldn’t they?

“We are a team from a lower league and they are going well in their own division.

“We’ve just got to go out and do what we do while enjoying it as well.”

While Town are impressing at the back – their run without conceding a league goal has now passed 13 hours – Carden has been keen to add more firepower to his squad going forward.

Forward Jake Kirby was brought in on a short-term loan from Stockport County last week and scored on his debut in Saturday’s 3-0 win over South Shields.

Carden has also moved to sign Warrington-born Marine frontman Dominic Reid.

The Yellows boss says having a local boy in the team makes things “a bit more interesting.”

“Dom brings a rawness that you can’t coach,” he said.

“He’s strong, robust and accustomed to this level of football but hungry to succeed and go on.

“He’s local to Warrington as well, which makes things that little bit more interesting.

“We’re really looking forward to having him in the squad and hopefully he can achieve what he wants to with us.”

Should Saturday’s game end all square, Yellows will travel to the New Bucks Head to face AFC Telford again in a replay on Tuesday night.

However, if the game is decided on Saturday, Tuesday’s fixture will see Carden’s side travel to Whitby Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
