Wilmslow 31 Lymm 59

ADAM Fletcher says a two-week break has come at the right time for his Lymm side.

Injuries are mounting for the Crouchley Lane outfit, but despite several key absentees they still managed to pick up their first away victory of the season.

Their first meeting with Wilmslow in 10 years also ended with their maiden bonus-point win of the campaign as some sparkling rugby saw them lead 38-5 at the break.

Oli Higginson and Richard McEvoy both scored twice in a rampant first-half display by Lymm, with Matty Hand and Joe Watson also crossing in the opening 40 minutes.

Aaron Rasheed, Tom Bray and Matty Connolly added tries after the interval, while Cormac Nolan finished with seven conversions.

However, Fletcher pointed to a final quarter in which Lymm conceded three tries as proof that his side need to tighten up in defence.

“It was good to get our first away win and five points of the season,” he said.

“Some of our play in the first half, which took us to 38-5, was outstanding. We were creative, powerful and clinical.

The difference between this half and previous weeks was our ability to control the ball.

“We know that if we keep hold of the ball we will create chances.

“The second half was a different story. We took our foot off the gas and let a lively Wilmslow side come back into the game.

“We have to work harder in defence to protect our line.

“Injuries are creeping up on us, so the break next week is much-needed.”

Lymm, who are now 10th in the North Premier table, welcome Kendal to Crouchley Lane in their next game on Saturday, October 13.
