PAUL Carden says his Warrington Town side “looked a bit weary” and “caused their own nervousness” despite picking up a sixth league win in a row tonight.

An early goal from Dylan Vassallo was enough to secure victory over Mickleover Sports and send them back to the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

The visitors controlled much of the second half, but Town were able to repel them and stretch their run without conceding a league goal past 13 hours.

However, Carden believes their long run of games with a largely unchanged team may be starting to catch up with them.

“Obviously, we’re delighted to win especially because we haven’t played great,” he said.

“It’s another clean sheet as well, which we’re over the moon with.

“We had chunks of play in the first half where we looked really good.

“In the second half, they’ve had a chance early on and were the better team.

“They enjoyed more of the ball without really causing us too many problems after that chance where Tony makes an outstanding save.

“They haven’t really hurt us, but we’ve caused our own nervousness and panic through poor play, poor decision-making and distribution.

“We looked a bit weary I think, but it’s been predominantly been the same players that have played every week.

“We’ve had a couple of chances in the first half. We could have made it easier for ourselves.

“We created good chances but we didn’t take them.

“With the way we are at the back, we’re mean and one goal has proved enough.

“We’ve got a solid backline and players understand their jobs.

“The back line is only part of why we’re keeping clean sheets. The rest of the team understands the shape and that’s where we start from.”
