Lymm 13 Blaydon 26

“A HARSH, long winter” could await Lymm if they do not start picking up points quickly, skipper Adam Bray has warned.

They surrendered a half-time lead at Crouchley Lane on Saturday as Blaydon scored 14 unanswered second-half points to condemn Lymm to a third defeat in four North Premier games this season.

A converted Ali Sutherland try and two Cormac Nolan penalties had given a patched-up Lymm outfit side control in the first half, but the visitors proved too strong.

Bray is clear about where his side are going wrong.

“The poor lineout display we put in at Wirral continued,” he said.

“We lost four or five attacking lineouts on their five-metre line.

“The error count of knock-ons and forward passes was too high again and it ultimately cost us the game.

“Whilst there were some good signs, we know we need to start picking up points or a harsh, long winter awaits us.”

Blaydon scored the game’s first try after 10 minutes, but Nolan was able to boot over a brace of penalties to give the hosts the lead.

With makeshift scrum-half Luke Richards growing into the role, he combined with Oli Higginson to send Sutherland over between the posts.

However, Blaydon made the most of Giles Dugdale’s yellow card with another try before the break and that proved to be the turning point.

The visitors crossed with 15 minutes of the second half played to give them a lead they would not relinquish.

While Lymm continued to probe, Blaydon were more clinical and secured a bonus point with five minutes remaining.

Lymm travel to newly-promoted Wilmslow on Saturday.
