LEE Johnstone took home the top prize from the Padgate Tennis and Bowling Club Floodlit competition on Sunday.

The St Oswalds bowler beat two-time champion Larry Wells of King & Queen 21-14 in the final to win the title for the first time.

Johnstone had earlier beaten Wayne Sixsmith (21-8), Terry Glover (21-19) and Dave Penketh (21-7) to set up the final clash with Wells, which was played out in front of more than 100 spectators.

THE winners of the Centenary Trophy will be decided at Tetley No1 tomorrow, Friday.

The final will be between Brooklands/St Oswalds A and St Albans/Stag A and play will get underway at 7pm.

THE Brian Welsby Open Pairs competition will get underway at Grange Sports Club on Monday, October 1.

There will be play on each of the following three days, with the final on Sunday, October 7.

Players should arrive at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, and draws will be made out on the green.
