WARRINGTON athletes finished on the podium in their home town at the English Half Marathon.

The 10k saw Warrington winners in both the male and female categories.

Lee Fuller, from Warrington Running Club took the men’s 10k crown with a two-second victory over Lee Hughes of Lymm Runners with Anthony Lawlor of Knowsley Harriers coming in third.

Warrington Road Runners’ Tracy Entwistle won the female 10k title in a time of 40.54, with Carmel Triggs in second and Gemma Floyd of Morpeth Harriers in third.

Louis Blizzard, a member of Warrington Athletics Club with a previous running history at Belgrave Harriers, led the way as the third woman to finish – first in the over 40s age group – in 1hr 30mins 32secs.

Mervyn Ward was the first of the club's runners over the line, crossing in 142nd place overall but first in the over 60s band in 1hr 28mins 49secs.

Kelly Crossley recorded 367th overall, 22nd woman, and the third woman in the over 35s age group.

Under 15s star Ashley Nemits' mother Joanne finished 510th, placing her 64th woman and ninth in the over 40s women’s age group in 1hr 44mins 21secs.

In the event's 10km race, Emma Pryor clocked 48mins 59secs, while in the 5km race under 13s runner Harry Wakefield finished 316th in 32mins 03secs and was followed in by his parents in the next two places.

Meanwhile, Steve Watmough brought his World Masters Championships to a superb end in Malaga on Sunday when he finished sixth in the half marathon, leading the British team to the silver medals behind Spain.

He recorded 1hr 19mins 12secs in a British team that included Nick Martin (Mile High/South West Masters) and Mark Halls (Brighton & Hove/South East Masters).

Watmough ran in the 5000m for over 55s at the Carranque Sports Centre a few days earlier, finishing in eighth place in 17mins 01.40secs in a high-class race.

Warrington Athletics Club’s Paul Bagan finished ninth in the Essar Guilden Sutton 10km road race on Sunday with a time of 35mins 32secs to place third in the over 40s age group.

WARRINGTON triathlete Dan Harbidge finished his 2018 season on Sunday, by winning the Olympic Distance Race in Ellesmere, Shropshire, consisting of a 1500m Swim, 40km bike and a 10km run.

This followed another victory over the same distance at a race in Allerthorpe, Yorkshire, in August.

In another notable achievement, Harbidge has qualified to represent Team GB at the 2019 Age-Group World Championships in Switzerland.
