Wirral 19 Lymm 11

COACH Adam Fletcher labelled Lymm's loss at Wirral as a 'poor day at the office'.

His side led twice in the first half courtesy of two Cormac Nolan penalty goals, but a failure to mount sufficient pressure at key stages made life easier for the home defence in the North Premier League encounter.

“Too many errors and we didn’t match Wirral’s attitude and desire," said Fletcher.

“Lots to work on this week, in preparation for the Blaydon match at home on Saturday (kick-off 3pm). We have to work in particular on our ball retention techniques for multiple phases.

“On a positive note, a great win for our second team against Fylde means a fair number of the boys have put their hands up for first-team selection.”

Lymm's only try came with less than five minutes left.

A determined attack allowed winger Richard McEvoy to beat several defenders and score out wide.

LYMM'S seconds established a creditable win against joint league leaders Fylde.

They twice got 12 points in front without being able to shake off Fylde thoroughly.

Tom Baker got his arms free to release Aaron Rashid for a 17-5 advantage at the break.

Scoring continued to-and-fro and at 22-17 with 15 minutes to go the Lymm forwards stepped up the pace and started to make inroads, resulting in two converted penalties by Josh Davies.

In the dying minutes, Jake Davies chased a kick unopposed to score a converted try.

Burnage 32 Warrington 25

BURNAGE'S first-half performance was just enough to withstand a second-half fightback by Warrington.

The hosts led 24-11 at the break, with Warrington's points coming from a McEniff try and two Gilooly penalties.

Increasingly influential skipper Downes crashed over but a disastrous clearance kick went straight to Burnage hands for a soft try, followed by another penalty.

A last-minute try between the posts from centre Pilkington earned Warrington a deserved losing bonus point.

“Burnage deserved their win,” said coach Andy Roberts.

“But our spirit was never in question.

"While we missed several regulars, some of our rugby was very pleasing.

"We will have to sharpen our defence as we face our fourth away game at Blackburn next week.”

Moore 19 Prenton Academics 42

A NIGHTMARE of a second half saw Moore suffer a second home defeat of the season.

Moore threw away a 19-0 first-half lead that had been assembled with tries from Joe Pidgeon, two, and Frazer McKie

Uncharacteristic mistakes and two players being yellow carded in quick succession led to six tries being leahed in a 30-minute period.

The Moss Lane outfit have the ability can seek to make amends on Saturday when they welcome Carrington, kick off 3pm.
