MAYBE I’m on my own with this one but I am heartily sick and tired of the constant chatter about the structure of Betfred Super League.

Super 8s or no Super 8s, he said that and we say this, the whole on-going issue is mind blowing – and frankly boring.

Now at long last we have gone back to how it used to be with a traditional one-up one-down system for next season.

Critics of the current system point to the fact the top four has been virtually sorted for almost a month and the only issue with two games to go is the exact order, which of course affects who gets home advantage in the Betfred Super League Grand Final semi finals.

But check out the Super 8 qualifiers where literally anything can happen with Toronto, Toulouse, London and even Widnes all still in with a shout of making it into the big time.

Anyway, enough of all this, let’s concentrate on the stars of the game rather than structures.

There is a new chief executive in Robert Elstone who wants to go back to how it was so fair enough, he should be backed to the hilt and we can concentrate on some cracking forthcoming games as this fascinating season reaches a finale on October 13 at Old Trafford.

So unless there are some crazy score lines, Warrington will finish fourth and play the newly-crowned Shield winners Saints in one semi with Wigan hosting Castleford in the other.

The Wire are the 11/2 outsiders at Betfred to be outright winners, with Saints and Wigan joint 13/8 favourites while Cas are an attractive 9/2.

All the headlines after Wire’s 26-6 defeat at Wigan were rightly about the highly impressive return of Dom Manfredi after a serious knee injury. But from the Wolves’ point of view it was a decent showing not reflected by the score line.

As coach Steve Price said afterwards, Warrington were in with a shout until the sin-binning of Tom Lineham in the 68th minute.

Price was full of praise of 19-year-old debutant Luis Johnson – and that’s something I entirely agree with especially after that try-saving tackle on Oliver Gildart towards the end of the blood and thunder encounter at the DW Stadium that was a great advertisement for the game.

So next up for Price and his team are St Helens at home on Saturday.

It will be a rehearsal of the semi, so will be interesting to see how the two clubs approach the fixture trying to balance keeping players fresh and injury free against the important of momentum in the quest for Grand Final glory.
