THE new season is underway at Warrington Hockey Club, and the women’s first team got off to the perfect start by beating Knutsford.
Warrington got off to a flyer in their first game under new captain Carrie Wright, with Meg Sutch and Tammy Finlayson putting them into an early two-goal lead.
Emma Barlow added a third and despite Knutsford getting themselves back in contention in the second half, Warrington held on for a 3-2 victory.
The seconds visited Winnington Park, but could only field a team of 10 players.
Becky Miller, Molly Rudd, Lauren Hayes and Abi Hynes were impressive as Warrington were unlucky to go into the break 1-0 down, but the hosts pressed home their advantage in the second half to record a 4-0 win.
