Lymm Eagles 14 Moore 28

A FINE individual display from Sam Craven inspired Moore to their first victory of the new campaign.

The winger scored 18 of the Moss Lane side’s points as they earned bragging rights over neighbours Lymm Eagles at Crouchley Lane, a haul which included a try, two conversions and three penalties.

Joe Pidgeon and Joe Long were also on the scoresheet for Moore as they scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to turn the game around.

The visitors started the game well and scored almost straight from the kick-off against the team that won promotion alongside them last season.

Possession was recycled well before Matt Mossop picked up a chip and executed a perfect offload for full-back Pidgeon to score.

Moore spent plenty of time in the Lymm 22, but could not convert pressure into points and the hosts levelled after stealing a Moore lineout to score from a driving maul.

That brought Lymm into the game and they capped a sustained period of pressure by taking the lead before the break.

However, it was all Moore in the second half and Mike Barr’s excellent line break was finished off by Craven to narrow the deficit to just two points.

With the game locked in an arm-wrestle, Craven’s boot proved decisive as he kicked three penalties to put Moore back into the lead.

This galvanised them against a tired Lymm side and they got the final score when scrum-half Long capitalised on fine work from the Moore pack to break and score the game’s final try.

They welcome Prenton Academicals to Moss Lane on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
