PAUL Carden believes Warrington Town’s excellent week is a result of the players believing in what they do in training.

Yellows won both their games this week without conceding a goal, with Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Workington being preceded by a 5-0 thumping of North Ferriby on Saturday.

Their results have propelled them up to third in the Evo-Stik Premier Division table as the league takes a break for the FA Cup this weekend.

Carden says familiarity is growing all the time within his new-look squad and their confidence is following a similar path.

“A few weeks ago, we played Farsley and it looked like we didn’t understand each other,” he said.

“We had a few players come in a couple of days before the game and we didn’t look familiar.

“Winning breeds confidence and clean sheets do the same.

“I’d say getting a 0-0 at Bamber Bridge when we were second-best for most of the game was a bit of a turning point.

“We had the chance to work on things and I think the lads are seeing the things we do in training come off in games.

“That gives them more belief and the understanding grows from there.

“They can also see what each other’s strengths are and we’re seeing that in the performances.”

Town have also kept four consecutive clean sheets, much of which is down to the burgeoning partnership between experienced duo Mark Roberts and David Raven at centre-half.

However, it appears Yellows are enjoying the product of a partnership that began elsewhere.

“They have played against each other but have never come across each other until recently,” Carden said.

“They were both training with Fylde in pre-season and went on tour with them to Scotland.

“They roomed together, got familiar and they have become really good mates.

“They are pretty similar lads. They’re both intelligent, composed and experienced.

“Dave was outstanding on Tuesday with his reading of the game and his clearances.

“He really helps Mitch Duggan because he’s vocal and he sweeps that right-side channel really well.

“The whole back line is playing well at the moment and long may it continue.”

Yellows welcome North West Counties Premier Division side Burscough to Cantilever Park on Saturday, kick off 3pm, as their FA Cup campaign begins in the first qualifying round.

Carden says he wants to take Warrington as far as possible in football’s oldest knock-out competition in order to take advantage of an increased reward for progress.

“The prize money is a lot more in the FA Cup this year and we want a piece of it,” he said.

“We want to go as far as we can and that means winning games.

“That goes for whatever competition we are in.”

Following Saturday’s game, Yellows travel to Hyde United in the Evo-Stik Premier Division on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
