PAUL Carden was delighted with the ruthless attitude his Warrington Town side showed in Saturday’s thumping win at North Ferriby United.

Yellows won 5-0 at the Chadwick Stadium to climb to fifth in the early Evo-Stik Premier Division table while also keeping their third consecutive clean sheet.

Richard Brodie got his first goal for the club while Bohan Dixon marked his Town debut by getting on the scoresheet, with Tony Gray, Dylan Vassallo and Josh Amis also hitting the net.

Warrington were three goals to the good at half-time, but Carden said he was pleased with how his side made their hosts “suffer” after the break – something he feels was missing from his side last season.

He also hailed the impact David Raven and Jack Mackreth had on the side as they made their long-awaited debuts after finally receiving international clearance.

“In this game, you have to be ruthless. At times last season I felt we weren’t as ruthless as we should have been,” he said.

“We sat on leads when we should have been trying to extend them.

“I told the boys at half-time that I wanted no goals against but that I also wanted more goals for.

“If you’ve got your foot on a team’s throat, you don’t let them breath. You make them suffer and you punish them.

“We did that and we could have scored more in the second half.

“We hit the bar and we had a few other opportunities when we’ve come close.

“It was pleasing as well that, apart from one really good save at 2-0 which was a big moment, I don’t think Tony McMillan had anything to do in the second half.

“Having Dave and Jack in the side gives us a real chance because of the quality they bring, but also they bring that out in other players and it gave the squad a real lift.”

Dixon – a forward brought in from Ashton United – gave an impressive 20-minute cameo from the bench and capped it by scoring Town’s fifth goal.

Carden said he was pleased to finally get the powerful 28-year-old on board but warned him he will have to work hard to earn a place in his side.

“I tried to sign Bohan at the back end of last season from Stockport,” he said.

“He has a lot of talent but he’s frustrated a lot of people during his spells at different clubs.

“The one thing that shines through is how much ability he has.

“He hasn’t played in a while, but during his 20 minutes at the weekend I think we saw what talent he can bring in terms of composure in the final third.

“It’s a nice time to come on in a game when you’re 3-0 up and the team’s playing well, but he was very good.

“He’s obviously seen the quality in the squad and he knows he has to work.

“The big thing for us is that he adds to what is already a very strong strike force.”

News of Dixon’s arrival came as the perfect tonic to news of midfielder Liam Hynes’ departure from Cantilever Park.

The former Southport man was missing from the squad for the 0-0 draw at Bamber Bridge on Bank Holiday Monday and he was confirmed to have joined divisional rivals Marine on Saturday.

Carden admits he was disappointed with the manner of Hynes’ exit given the lengths to which the club went to ensure he recovered fully from the serious knee injury he suffered early last season.

However, the Yellows boss says the player himself has since admitted he could have handled the situation better.

“The timing of it I thought was poor from Liam’s point of view,” he said.

“The ironic thing is he would have started against Bamber Bridge. I told him that and I spoke to him again during the week just highlighting my disappointment.

“If he was at other clubs, he wouldn’t be fit now.

“We put a lot of time and effort into getting him the right rehab for his injury because it was a bad one and he’s come back stronger.

“We were getting scans for him and things like that and we put a lot of time into him.

“We’re just really disappointed in the way it went, but we’ve moved on from it now.

“He’s said he regrets being so hasty with his decision and has apologised. I wish him all the best and we move on.”

Town welcome Workington to Cantilever Park tomorrow night for their next Evo-Stik Premier Division game.

Carden says he expects Robbie Evans and Jack Dunn to return after they missed Saturday’s match through injury, but that the game is likely to come too soon for Luke George to feature.

Kick off is at 7.45pm.
