PAUL Carden says his Warrington Town side will entertain their fans as they get set to begin their Evo-Stik Premier Division season.

Yellows welcome Farsley Celtic to Cantilever Park in their opening game of the 2018-19 campaign on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

The game is a meeting of last season’s beaten play-off semi-finalists, with Warrington losing to Grantham Town and Farsley being beaten by Ashton United, who were eventually promoted to the National League North.

Carden says the game is as tough for the visitors as it is for his side, with both teams among the favourites for promotion once again.

With a plethora of attacking signings arriving at the club, the Yellows boss admits his side will be going into the new campaign “forward-heavy.”

The Town boss says it has been a necessary step, though, as his side were the lowest scorers among the division’s top seven last season.

“I feel we’ve got players now right through the team who can give us goals,” he told the Guardian.

“Last season, we were restricted to three main goalscorers, but more players will contribute now.

“There’s lads in all positions who can give us that, so that’s probably why we’ve gone forward-heavy at the moment.

“Putting the ball in the net is the hardest thing to do in football, but the more people you have who can do it the better chance you have of winning games.

“The footballers we have in the squad are just that, they are entertainers.

“There is a lot of energy and ability in that dressing room.

“If we can get it to knit, the outcome will be that we will entertain.

“It will be a tough start, but it’s tough for Farsley as well. Nobody can ever look at a fixture and say it’s a given.

“It’s last season’s beaten semi-finalists, but that’s irrelevant now.

“We want to get off to a good start as I’m sure they do.”

Yellows started almost from scratch in terms of squad-building, with much of last season’s group of players moving on.

Two of those – Jack Higgins and Will Hayhurst – could line up against them for Saturday’s opponents Farsley.

However, Carden is encouraged by the bond his players have formed already.

“Sometimes it takes a little bit of time, but certainly in the last couple of weeks they have come together as a group,” he said.

“Even daft things like Whatsapp groups and fantasy football teams going on shows everyone is getting on board and having a go.

“They are looking around and seeing good players next to them in the dressing room, which always helps as well.”

Following Saturday’s opener, Yellows are in action again on Tuesday evening when they travel to Lancaster City, kick off 7.45pm.
