WARRINGTON Town are set to add more defensive reinforcements to their squad this week.

The recruitment of centre-halves has been a top priority for manager Paul Carden for most of the summer, with captain Jay McCarten still recovering from ankle surgery.

Jack Higgins and Liam Goulding have also moved on, while the experienced David Raven has arrived at Cantilever Park.

However, with the opening game of the season against Farsley Celtic just four days away, Carden is confident there will be movement very soon.

“We’re getting close to where we need to be in the defensive department,” he told the Guardian.

“We’ve still got a couple of things to do this week, but they are in place to be done.

“Barring something out of the blue, I’m confident the squad will be how I want it for the first game.

“Until things are done, you’re still waiting and hoping.

“Hopefully, we can have some positive news in the next couple of days and go into the first game with the squad more or less done.”
