A LATCHFORD martial arts club is celebrating winning a huge medal haul at the Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Junior World Championships staged in Wolverhampton at the weekend.

A stack of world titles were achieved, while silver and bronze medals were also raked in by youngsters aged five to 16 at the LS Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club, which runs out of Warrington Judo Club in Woolacombe Close.

More LS members produced strong performances but narrowly missed out on medals in an open competition that attracted 1,600 competitors from across more than 20 countries.

The club’s new world champions, some of whom were winners of both Gi and No-Gi (grappling without the traditional uniform) competitions, include three siblings.

Brian Fitzgibbon, 11, his sister Scarlett, eight, and brother Harry, five, ended the weekend with a handful of world titles between them.

Also on top of the world this week are Wiktoria Tomera, 13, Quasim Siddiq, 13, Sean Melia, 11, Ewa Laszkiewicz, 11, Igor Witkowski, 11, and Layla Szymanska, nine.

Melia also won a silver, along with Hassan Shabalay, Hasnain Siddiq, 16, Connor Hollingsworth, 14, and Maddie Rowlands, 10.

Bronzes were won by Shabalay, Mansha Ali, 14, Mason Roskell, 13, Dylan Stuart, 13, Rhys Chadwick, 10, Harvey Farrell, 10, Joseph Parkinson, nine, Jess Neary, nine, Mohamed Ali Ahmed, six, and Sebastian Laszkiewicz, six.
