WARRINGTON Wolves' past players have jumped to the support of seven youngsters representing England Youth in France this week.

George Roby, Connor Wrench, Morgan Burgess and Josh Thewlis, who were all part of Wire's unbeaten scholarship side this season, are among a 22-man squad that plays its first of two Test matches against France at Stade de la Mer in Le Barcarès on the south coast tonight, Tuesday.

In addition, three of the club’s academy signings for next year, Jacob Gannon, Dave Gibbins and Ellis Longstaff, are also on the tour.

Each boy has been presented with 'spending money' courtesy of the past players' group.

"It's important to support the young players and as ex-players we'll do it as much as we can," said George Thornton, chairman of the association.

"To get seven players at under 16s level to be selected for England is fabulous.

"We're all one big club, we're all a family and this shows the past players, the first team and the new players are all in it together.

"Having met the boys I can say what lovely lads they are.

"They've been the best in their schools and clubs, now they've got to really start working hard."

Funds from a past players' dinner as well as a golf day, organised by former Wire international forward Mike Nicholas, resulted in 100 Euros being presented to each player.

A second Test match takes place at the same venue on Friday before facing Catalans under 16s at the Stade Gilbert Brutus in Perpignan on Monday.
